We support California Forever.
The Golden State is in a rough way. But we believe that our best days lie ahead. When faced with housing shortages in the past, our leaders took bold actions to increase the supply of new housing. For this reason, California YIMBY is proud to support … a project that will—at full build-out—provide homes for as many as 400,000 Californians and provide a template for sustainable growth.
The California Forever project is a great idea. The implementation will be very tricky, but there’s a big opportunity here.
I am optimistic about California Forever. Everything I’ve seen and read so far looks like what the New Urbanists have been trying to get on the ground for 40 years. Including leveling the playing field so urbanism can get permitted as easily as sprawl.
As a lifelong resident of Rio Vista and business owner in this region, I’ve always believed in the potential of Solano County, and the California Forever project is a game-changer for our community. I fully support this project – it’s an opportunity we cannot afford to miss.
The California Forever project is a monumental endeavor that will make a major contribution to solving California’s housing crisis, create 12,000 jobs during the construction phase, and create over 50,000 permanent jobs by 2040. This project takes California back to what made our state great – big, bold, daring endeavors that redefined our economy and made the California Dream possible for generations of Californians. We are proud to support California Forever.
The California Forever project represents a monumental opportunity for regional growth and development. The construction phase alone would bring $2.4 billion of investment and over 12,000 jobs to Solano County, with over 50,000 jobs supported from 2040 onwards. This project would create generational employment, for workers who apprentice, work, and retire on this project, with hopefully many of them living in the new community. Our company has spent the last 110 years building a better California, including numerous projects in Solano County, a place that many of our employees call home. We would be proud to do our part in bringing this visionary project to life.

I grew up in SoCal when it was the American dream. After college I moved to Seattle for a job at Microsoft. I have not moved back to California because it is too expensive. I am a Cali girl and would love to return.
This will dramatically help provide much needed housing, jobs and industry in our great state!

Harsh reality is that we’re on track to get safe streets at scale for my kids at California Forever before we ever get them in SF, and not for lack of trying. California Forever is shifting the Overton window by even aspiring in the direction of an independent childhood — way beyond any vision I’ve ever heard from any CA or even US city. That is important.

I can understand why California Forever exists, and how the extreme frustration of attempting to reform land use patterns leads some people to say F@!k it and want to start from scratch*. It’s tough having both the left and right fight a basic human need.

I recently had to leave California because of the high cost of housing, but it's still home to me. My family and friends are there. I grew up in inland Orange County, went to college at Chico State, started my career in San Francisco, and spent countless vacations exploring California’s beautiful natural landscapes.
I now live in Austin, Texas, but I dream of being able to move back one day. California Forever checks all my boxes: affordable, well-designed housing, thoughtful community planning, walkability, and access to outdoor spaces. It sounds like the kind of place I’d be excited to help shape and grow. I’d be first in line to build community and set down roots.
I fully support this project and hope it moves forward.

Please make this happen! California needs cities with better urban planning and land use! Set the example for others to follow with high and medium density mixed use zoning that allows people to use their legs instead of separating everyone into dangerous individual vehicles.

I’m excited about a walkable city of 400,000! Let’s embrace the California spirit that brought us the Master Plan for Higher Education, the State Water Project, and even the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway. California can still do big things.

The new California city will be built on just 17,500 acres of the 60,000 acres purchased by
@CAForever. This consumes far less land than most cities of its sizeA breath of fresh air compared to the dominant sprawl pattern that consumes vast swathes of California’s landscape!

California Forever is right that “Plan A” of building more infill has failed (so far!) to produce enough housing. If they build this city dense, it’ll be a great alternative to the car-centered sprawl in Arizona housing policies send Californians to now.

I want California Forever to be built so badly so that we can prove that it really is possible to build cities like this again. Existing cities will no longer have any excuses.

I’m on board. I try to be pragmatic about housing, and perfect shouldn’t be the enemy of the good. Suburban greenfields produce the majority of US housing, and that’s not changing anytime soon. They can be a hell of a lot better though, and the East Solano Plan could be a model.
